We are looking for a Search & Ranking Optimization Engineer to develop scalable legal search infrastructure, optimize ranking models, and enhance legal document retrieval.

The Role

As a Search & Ranking Engineer at MiAI Law, you will:

• Optimize multi-metric ranking algorithms for case law, contracts, and regulatory documents.
• Implement scalable search infrastructure, integrating vector search, semantic retrieval, and metadata indexing.
• Enhance search relevance using machine learning & NLP-based ranking models.
• Work with legal AI researchers to integrate ML-driven ranking approaches.
• Ensure high-performance legal search capabilities for large-scale legal datasets.

Key Responsibilities

Search Ranking Optimization

• Design multi-metric ranking algorithms prioritizing court hierarchy, case recency, and legal significance.
• Improve legal document search relevance using BM25, Elasticsearch, and Pinecone for vector search.
• Optimize query expansion, auto-suggestion, and legal taxonomy integration.

Machine Learning & NLP for Search

• Develop NLP-driven ranking models integrating legal semantics.
• Implement BERT-based rerankers for legal search queries.
• Apply vector embeddings & knowledge graph retrieval for enhanced case law search.

Performance Scaling & Infrastructure

• Scale legal search workloads using distributed search engines (Elasticsearch, Solr, Pinecone).
• Improve query latency, caching strategies, and search indexing efficiency.
• Develop search monitoring tools to analyze query success rates & retrieval performance.

Requirements: Who You Are

Technical Skills:

• 3+ years of experience in search, ranking, and information retrieval.
• Strong background in search algorithms, Elasticsearch, Solr, Pinecone, or Vespa.
• Proficiency in vector search, dense retrieval, and semantic search modeling.
• Experience with ranking ML models (LTR, BERT-based rerankers, query expansion).
• Knowledge of legal document retrieval, taxonomy classification, and NLP-driven legal search.
