Laina Chan

Founder & CEO

Driven by a desire to leverage AI for creating 'perfect memory' for herself and harnessing her 30 years of accumulated experience, Laina co-founded MiAI Law Pty Ltd with Fred Almeida, her Harvard Business School classmate from 2019. Laina’s vision for MiAI Law is to revolutionize legal research with AI, delivering unprecedented efficiency and accuracy.

Professional Background

Laina is an award-winning barrister with 20 years of legal practice, complemented by dual qualifications in Pure Mathematics and Law from the University of Sydney. A member of the esteemed 2019 Management Excellence cohort at Harvard Business School, her career is marked by numerous accolades:

  • 2021 Lawyers Weekly Female Barrister of the Year
  • Consistent finalist for the Lawyers Weekly Australian Barrister of the Year since 2019

Fred Almeida

Founder & Chief Architect

Fred Almeida is an expert in AI and Robotics, based in Tokyo who describes himself as a "hacker" given his exceptional skills in complex AI technology. He is a pioneering figure with a far-reaching impact on the tech industry. Fred's role at Ascent Robotics as Founder was even featured in the 2018 Australian Financial Review article entitled "Why Japan Trumps Silicon Valley for Some Tech Whizzes." Fred was instrumental in developing deep learning technologies for autonomous driving in Japan, competing with global giants like DeepMind, Waymo, and Uber. This work earned him a prestigious Japanese award.

Fred has multiple patents and the ones relevant to MiAI Law are:

  • JP-2019098949-A - Learning method, learning device and learning program;
  • WO-2023068252-A1 - Target digital twin model generation system, control system for robot, virtual shop generation system, target digital twin model generation method, control method for robot, and virtual shop generation method; and
  • JP-2020135672- AI inference of flow.

Ashley Brinson

Ashley has over three decades of business leadership spanning America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Ashley is the Director of “Project Green Polysilicon”, a multi-billion dollar solar semiconductor facility at the Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct. The investment is led by Private Energy Partners, the in-house project developers for Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners. Ashley is the Director of Brinson and Associates strategy consultancy, and he is Director of Greener Technologies Pty Ltd, the developer of Solarobotix.

Roxane Desmicht

Roxane Desmicht is a recognised thought leader in supply chain management and digital transformation, known for her contributions as a panelist and presenter at international conferences. With over 20 years of experience in the high-tech and semiconductor industries, her versatile expertise spans product development, project management, account management, and supply chain.

In recent years, Roxane has been at the forefront of driving digital transformation in supply chain and operations. She has collaborated with the Singapore Economic Development Board and TUV Süd to test and refine the Singapore Smart Industry Readiness Index.

David Ioannidis

David Ioannidis is a seasoned Portfolio Manager at Rolling Capital Management, with a strong background in financial markets and a keen interest in nurturing early-stage companies. With a successful career spanning over three decades, David brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table.

David's professional journey began in Investment Banking, where he specialized in trading Fixed Income markets at Citi and later at JP Morgan. During his decade plus tenure at JP Morgan, David held various key positions, including leading the Fixed Income Trading division in Australia. He was a member of both the Global Rates Management Committee and the Local Executive Committee, showcasing his strategic leadership skills.

Jonathon P Karelse

Jonathon is the award-winning CEO of North Find Management and a global leader in Sales & Operations Planning, governance, and operations management. He has managed process improvement and organizational change for companies as diverse as Staples, Heineken, Dell Technologies, Microsoft and STEMCELL Biotechnologies.

His board experience spans the healthcare, industrial and consumer packaged goods industries, in addition to his advisory work with the International Journal of Applied Forecasting. Jonathon's best-selling book Histories of the Future was published in 2021 by Forbes Books and was followed by a podcast on demand planning hosted by Forbes Radio.

Jonathon studied Economics at the University of Western Ontario before moving to the University of British Columbia to study law. He is a graduate of the MIT Sloan School of Management, a member of the 2019 Management Excellence cohort at Harvard Business School, and a member of the Harvard Business Review’s Advisory Council.
