Laina Chan
Founder & CEO
Driven by a desire to leverage AI for creating 'perfect memory' for herself and harnessing her 30 years of accumulated experience, Laina co-founded MiAI Law Pty Ltd with Fred Almeida, her Harvard Business School classmate from 2019. Laina’s vision for MiAI Law is to revolutionize legal research with AI, delivering unprecedented efficiency and accuracy.
Professional BackgroundLaina is an award-winning barrister with 20 years of legal practice, complemented by dual qualifications in Pure Mathematics and Law from the University of Sydney. A member of the esteemed 2019 Management Excellence cohort at Harvard Business School, her career is marked by numerous accolades:
- 2021 Lawyers Weekly Female Barrister of the Year
- Consistent finalist for the Lawyers Weekly Australian Barrister of the Year since 2019
- 2023 recognition as one of the Top 100 Women in Construction
A prolific author, Laina’s works are extensively published in peer-reviewed journals. She is:
- LexisNexis author of the annotated Insurance Contracts Act in the Insurance Law Practice
- Editorial board member of the LexisNexis Insurance Law Bulletin
- Co-author of the 2019 Federation Press publication of Contract and the Australian Consumer Law
Her publications are part of the curriculum at many Australian universities, and she frequently peer-reviews submissions for leading journals. Additionally, Laina shares her expertise as a guest lecturer for the University of Melbourne’s Masters of Construction Law program.
Early Career and Legal ResearchLaina began her legal journey as a researcher for the Honourable Justice Clarke at the New South Wales Court of Appeal and worked with the Honourable Michael Kirby AC CMG. Her foundational training in legal research was honed at the New South Wales Supreme Court library, mastering traditional research methodologies. Over the years, she has witnessed the evolution of legal research tools, transitioning from laborious manual processes to the rapid, AI-driven capabilities of today. What once took a week in 1994 can now be accomplished in seconds with MiAI Law’s cutting-edge AI research tools.
Dr Arjun Jain
Technical Advisor
Dr. Arjun Jain is a distinguished expert in artificial intelligence, holding a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (2013). He completed a notable postdoctoral tenure at the Courant Institute, NYU (2013–2015) with Yann LeCun and Chris Bregler. As the Founder and Chief Scientist of FastCode AI since 2015, Arjun has consistently driven cutting-edge research and innovation in computer vision, deep learning, and human sensing technologies.
In academia, Arjun has significantly contributed to advancing AI education through his roles as adjunct faculty at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc, 2020–Present) and IIT Bombay (2016–2019). His extensive scholarly work has earned nearly 8,000 citations, underscoring the substantial impact of his research on the global AI community.
Arjun holds multiple patents, particularly in AI-driven automotive safety and human sensing systems, highlighting his deep expertise in applying AI research to practical, high-impact scenarios. At MIAI.Law, he is uniquely positioned to advise and guide the delivery team, supporting the organization’s pioneering mission to lead the advancement of legal AI across the Commonwealth.
Our Advisory Board
Ashley Brinson
Ashley has over three decades of business leadership spanning America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Ashley is the Director of “Project Green Polysilicon”, a multi-billion dollar solar semiconductor facility at the Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct. The investment is led by Private Energy Partners, the in-house project developers for Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners. Ashley is the Director of Brinson and Associates strategy consultancy, and he is Director of Greener Technologies Pty Ltd, the developer of Solarobotix.
From 2014-2020, Ashley was the CEO of The Warren Centre for Advanced Engineering, a technology think tank at the University of Sydney. Prior to then, as the Solar Energy Alliances Manager for the Dow Corning Corporation, Ashley’s team developed solar panel manufacturing robots and field construction robots. Ashley is an inventor of five patent families related to silicon, and he designed, constructed and managed major silicon facilities in the U.S, Europe, and Asia based on these technologies including a multi-billion dollar “mega-project” facility in China.
Ashley holds a BChE from Georgia Tech, an MBA from Rutgers University, and a Juris Doctor from Sydney University Law School. Ashley is a Fellow of Engineers Australia, a Fellow of IChemE, a lawyer of the Supreme Court of NSW, and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Aditya Singh Chauhan
Aditya Singh Chauhan is a distinguished legal practitioner specializing in international arbitration and cross-border disputes, currently with M&Co Legal’s International Arbitration Department in Dubai, UAE. His experience includes practice at prestigious firms such as AZB & Partners and Khaitan & Co. in Mumbai, where he advised and negotiated high-stakes infrastructure, construction, and luxury hospitality projects.
Aditya also has a robust track record in arbitration and commercial litigation, particularly in corporate and infrastructure sectors.
Passionate about the intersection of technology and law, Aditya actively contributes to leading publications such as Kluwer Blog, Kluwer Arbitration, and Transnational Disputes Management. He is a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Research and Training in Arbitration Law (CARTAL) at the National Law University, Jodhpur—his alma mater—and previously served as Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Journal of Arbitration Law (IJAL). His work consistently explores how AI and emerging technologies can practically enhance legal efficiency and accuracy.
At MiAI Law, Aditya leverages his expertise to guide the ethical and secure integration of AI into legal practice and supports the firm’s strategic international expansion to empower legal professionals globally.
Roxane Desmicht
Roxane Desmicht is a recognised thought leader in supply chain management and digital transformation, known for her contributions as a panelist and presenter at international conferences. With over 20 years of experience in the high-tech and semiconductor industries, her versatile expertise spans product development, project management, account management, and supply chain.
In recent years, Roxane has been at the forefront of driving digital transformation in supply chain and operations. She has collaborated with the Singapore Economic Development Board and TUV Süd to test and refine the Singapore Smart Industry Readiness Index.
Currently, she is an adjunct professor of supply chain at EMLyon Business School and a professional coach. She also serves on the Industrial Advisory Board of the National University of Singapore's Industrial Engineering faculty.
Roxane's academic achievements exemplify her dedication and expertise. She holds a degree in Physics from the Ecole de Physique et Chimie Industrielles together with a master's degree in Material Science, and an Executive MBA from the China Europe International Business School.
Throughout her career, Roxane has demonstrated a relentless pursuit of excellence and innovation. Her multifaceted experience and deep industry knowledge make her an invaluable asset to any advisory board. David Ioannidis
David Ioannidis is a seasoned Portfolio Manager at Rolling Capital Management, with a strong background in financial markets and a keen interest in nurturing early-stage companies. With a successful career spanning over three decades, David brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table.
David's professional journey began in Investment Banking, where he specialized in trading Fixed Income markets at Citi and later at JP Morgan. During his decade plus tenure at JP Morgan, David held various key positions, including leading the Fixed Income Trading division in Australia. He was a member of both the Global Rates Management Committee and the Local Executive Committee, showcasing his strategic leadership skills.
In addition to his role at JP Morgan, David actively contributed to the financial services industry, serving on the Australian Financial Markets Association Governance Committee and as a Director at Yieldbroker (now Tradeweb Australia). His dedication and insights were further recognized during his tenure as Chairman of the Board at Yieldbroker, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the organization's trajectory.
In his post-banking career, David has redirected his focus towards partnering with founders to foster the growth of early-stage ventures across diverse sectors. His hands-on approach and strategic guidance have proven invaluable in helping budding entrepreneurs navigate the complexities of building and scaling their businesses.

Jonathon P Karelse
Jonathon is the award-winning CEO of North Find Management and a global leader in Sales & Operations Planning, governance, and operations management. He has managed process improvement and organizational change for companies as diverse as Staples, Heineken, Dell Technologies, Microsoft and STEMCELL Biotechnologies.
His board experience spans the healthcare, industrial and consumer packaged goods industries, in addition to his advisory work with the International Journal of Applied Forecasting. Jonathon's best-selling book Histories of the Future was published in 2021 by Forbes Books and was followed by a podcast on demand planning hosted by Forbes Radio.
Jonathon studied Economics at the University of Western Ontario before moving to the University of British Columbia to study law. He is a graduate of the MIT Sloan School of Management, a member of the 2019 Management Excellence cohort at Harvard Business School, and a member of the Harvard Business Review’s Advisory Council.
